Mountains and a lake split the board. Use jump pads to fly into enemy territory.
How to play
The board is 8 files by 10 ranks. In the middle is a lake (the blue squares, c5 to f6) and two mountains (b6 and g5). No piece can stand on or move through them: rooks, bishops and queens are blocked, and knights can leap over them but not land on them.
Trampolines (red, c4 and c7, f4 and f7): no piece can stop on a trampoline. Move onto one and it bounces you straight across the lake onto its twin, capturing an enemy piece standing there. If a friendly piece is on the twin, you cannot use it.
Portals (glowing rings on the side edges): a3 is linked to h8, and h3 is linked to a8. A rook, queen or king that moves sideways off the board from a portal square comes out of the linked portal on the other side and keeps going the same way.
Otherwise pieces move as in chess. Pawns may double-step on their first move and promote to a queen on the far rank. No castling or en passant. Checkmate wins, stalemate draws.
