Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 November 2026
ParadoxChess ("we", "us") runs the chess games at this website. We collect very little. You can play every single-player game without an account, and the bots run entirely on your device. This policy explains what we collect when you use online features and what you can do about it.
1. What we collect
| When | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You play offline vs bots without signing in | Nothing is sent to us. Settings, progress and stats stay in your browser's local storage. | So the game remembers your progress. |
| You play online as a guest | A random guest ID and session token. If you choose a display name, we store that name. | To match you with opponents and show your name to them. |
| You sign in with Google | Your Google account ID, email address, name and profile picture URL, plus the dates you joined and last signed in. | To create your account, show your name and avatar, and sync your progress across devices. |
| You sync progress (signed in) | A copy of your ParadoxChess settings and progress from local storage. | To restore them on another device. |
| You finish an online or reported game | The game mode, moves, result, time control, timestamps, your opponent's ID and name, and rating changes. | Game history, stats pages, ratings and the leaderboard. |
| You visit any page | Your IP address is processed in transit by our hosting provider. We use it to set a country-code cookie and for short-term rate limiting. We do not store it. | To pick a default language and prevent abuse. |
We do not use advertising, analytics or tracking tools, and we do not sell or share your personal information for advertising.
2. What other players can see
Your display name, avatar (if signed in with Google), rating, leaderboard position and game history (including moves) can be seen by other players and visitors. Your email address is never shown publicly.
3. Cookies and local storage
oc-cccookie: your two-letter country code, used only to choose a default language.- Local storage (
oc:*andoc-*keys): your settings, language, sound preference, progress and session token. You can clear these in your browser settings at any time. - Google sign-in: if you use it, Google may set its own cookies under Google's privacy policy.
We use these only to make the site work, not to track you.
4. Who processes your data
- Cloudflare hosts the site and stores our database (Workers, Durable Objects, D1).
- Google verifies your identity if you sign in with Google.
We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect players and the service from abuse or cheating.
5. How long we keep it
We keep account data, synced progress and game history until you ask us to delete them. Guests who play online, or who report a bot game, get a guest profile ("Guest xxxx" unless they chose a name) and a game history tied to a random guest ID. Nothing in a guest profile identifies you unless you put it in your display name. If you later sign in with Google, your guest history moves to your account. Rate-limit counters last about one minute.
6. Your choices and rights
Delete your account yourself: sign in and choose Delete account in the top bar. This removes your profile, Google details, synced progress, ratings and your game history straight away. Games you played against other people stay in their histories, with your name replaced by "Deleted player". Your progress saved in this browser is cleared too.
You can also ask us to access, correct, export or delete your data by emailing miyamoto.pierre@gmail.com. Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have extra rights, including the right to object to processing and to complain to your local data protection authority. Our legal bases are performing the service you asked for and our legitimate interest in running and securing the game.
7. Children
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your country) to sign in or play online. We ask you to confirm your age before your first online game. Younger players can play the offline games, which send us no data. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security and international transfers
Data is sent over HTTPS, and sessions use signed tokens. Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under their standard safeguards. No system is perfectly secure.
9. Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above. If the changes are significant, we will also post a notice on the site.
